This is a stunning representation of the beauty of cased crystal, where a colored layer is placed over a clear layer, and then expertly cut to let the light shine through. This vase sat on Aunt Nen's china cabinet for many, many years, and I remember as a kid thinking that it looked like it was leaning, but figured it was just the cabinet or the floor that was not level. Lo and behold, check the video and see why I now refer to this vase as "The Leaning Vase of Bohemia!" We discovered the lean was actual after Aunt Nen's death, so we never did get to the bottom of why it leans. I think it was probably just made that way? Momma said that she remembered that there was once a fire in the barn on Aunt Nen's farm, and that she thinks it was stored in there and was softened by the heat, causing the stem to bend. Whichever story you believe, it IS unique! The lean is only noticeable from one angle, and is very slight. Aunt Nen filled the vase with gladiolus from her garden; its weight and smallish diameter at the top held them tall and proud! 4.5" diameter, 14" tall. Weighs 2lb, 6 oz. A few very light scratches, no chips or cracks.
