This adorable creamer and sugar set are designed taller and smaller than a typical porcelain set, I assume to accommodate the molds and processes available to the manufacture of the glassware. They are 4" tall and the openings are about 2.75". They almost look cartoonish in their stance, with a sassy creamer and a belligerent sugar bowl having a heated discussion! While Hazel Atlas first developed the "Platonite" process in the 1930's, the richer, more opaque glazes were not perfected until the 1950's. This of method of firing glazes onto the outside of white glassware made rich, vibrant colors that competed with the many popular pottery companies for space on the MCM table.
