In the days before "self-weaning" and dare I say "feral feeding," young mothers of the 1940's, 50's, and 60's patiently scooped baby food with tiny spoons into their babies' mouths from a sectioned warming dish made of pottery or ceramic. The dish was filled with warm water, and the food was placed in individual sections to warm. Most had plugs that covered the fill holes, and this one would have had 2 cork plugs with ceramics tops. Often, the tops separated from the cork and were lost or discarded, as is the case with this example. I can't imagine the heavy ceramic dish would be very practical for feeding kids today, but as a nostalgic collectible it would be a cute way to organize jewelry, keys, loose change, or phones and wallets. It's en excellent condition with no cracks or chips.
