VINTAGE Hakata Urasaki Doll- The Woodcarver

Hakata Urasaki "Dolls" are actually exquisitely detailed ceramic sculptures made in Japan from the 1950's on. (Because I can't positively date this one I am simply listing it as "vintage"). It is stamped on the bottom with the original Made in Japan logo. In this example, a woodcarver is intently focused as he adds finishing elements to the Buddha sculpture he is carving from sandalwood. The detail captured in the face, hands and toes is amazing! From the folds of the clothing to the seams in the waistcoat, every detail is captured with remarkable clarity. This piece is in excellent condition with no cracks, scratches, or other visible flaws. The right hand removes for shipping and slides easily into place where it is held by gravity. He sits about 8.5 inches tall and would be a stunning addition to your Japandi collection!
