This beautiful compote is a reminder that some high-quality pieces came out of the 1970's amid the cacophony of mass-produced imports. The quality of the glass feels nicer than what one often sees in glassware from the era, and the Icelandic pattern is simple and elegant, giving the bowl timeless appeal. It stands 6-3/4" high, ready to serve as a stunning centerpiece filled with fruit or flowers, or as part of your buffet to hold trifle, salad, or other offerings.
A little history: since I've done the research, I may as well share it. Hazelware was originally a line crated by Hazel Atlas, as glassware company that was a prolific mid-century producer of glass tableware. When Brockway Glass (a bottle manufacturer) bought Hazel Atlas in the late 60's, the Hazelware line was one of the few consumer lines they carried forward. The Icelandic pattern included platters, bowls, pitchers, and other serve ware, and came in this amber/gold color, as well as green and clear.
