Measuring 8" round and 1-1/2" deep, this unique pan represents the space-race charm of Wear-ever's Hallite cookware series. Made of aluminum with riveted steel handles, it has an undeniable 50's era flying saucer appearance. The pan is in good vintage condition, solid rivets on the handles and some pitting of the interior, as expected of aluminum from this age. The bottom is beautiful shape with some minor scratches but no major cuts. The top has faded to a softer blue than the original, and the inside of the lid has oxidized pretty badly. Still, I think the product is incredibly unique and I don't think this piece shows excess wear for its age.

This is the first piece of Hallite I've come across, so I'd love to hear from anyone who knows more about it! From my research, I'm speculating that after making basic cookware since the late 1800's, the brain trust at Wear-ever (actually ALCOA) began to worry that new innovations in glass and ceramic manufacturing (Pyrex and CorningWare) may begin to challenge their quest for shelf-space in the department stores. I'm guessing that this Hallite line was their attempt to inject color and design into something that had previously been a "form follows function" kind of business. It's the very beginning of the 50's trend of marketing to housewives... one that follows all the way to the yogurt commercials we see today!
