I'm not sure there's anything as quentissentially 1970's as the Merry Mushroom collection sold exclusively at Sears and Roebuck. Mushrooms were all the rage in the period, and the Merry Mushroom collection had it covered! In addition to salt and pepper shakers, there were spice sets, canisters, clocks, cutting boards- a 70's housewife with deep pockets (or a Sears Revolving Charge card... in her husband's name, of course!) could do her entire kitchen in Merry Mushroom! Momma did not have any of it, but I know a family down the street had at least the canisters! It's become quite sought after, and I hope I can bring you more!
As I began to work with the photos I developed a suspicion that I have not adequately satisfied... I think that rather than a S&P pair, this may actually be 2 salt shakers. Here's why: the hole pattern on top is identical on both pieces, and they don't seem to be the same age. Usually 1 shaker has larger holes; these don't. Also, if you look at the photos of the backs and the bottoms, there is one piece that has more discoloration of the plastic stopper, and the "Japan" sticker is different. Perhaps grandma broke one, and replaced it later? If somebody reads this and knows more about the pattern than me, please set me straight! Meanwhile, they came to me as a set, so I'm going to sell them that way!
These are the taller shakers: 3-3/4" tall. I've seen some shorter ones. They are in great condition with no chips or cracks, just the slight discoloration on one that you can see in the photos.
