This beautiful Model 12C Sunbeam Mixmaster from the 1950's may represent the pinnacle of Sunbeam quality. I like to call this one the "Superman Mixer" because the "S" badges on the front and back reminds me of Superman comics from the same era. The tailfin dial and sleek chrome finish are a reminder that nothing could be too shiny in the 1950's! I've name her "Cissie" so I can identify them all individually and make sure that the mixer you receive is the one in the pictures!
This beauty has been completely cleaned and rebuilt, with 75 years of "ancient grains" removed from its innards and crevices. The gears have been repacked, the cord has been replaced, and the mixing speeds adjusted to meet Sunbeam's factory standard. The motor purrs like a kitten and she's ready to mix things up for you! (see video)
The bowls are not original- I'm not sure if this model came with chrome bowls or glass ones, but I rarely see chrome bowls anywhere, so I don't think many were made. I like the glass ones better anyway because they don't get all scratched up, and they show the beaters.
The last 2 photos show the only appreciable cosmetic flaws. The base of the support column has some pitting of the chrome finish, but there is no rust and no peeling. The bakelite base has a hairline crack that I didn't notice until I got it wet to wash it. It's covered by the turntable, and there doesn't seem to be any movement or weakening of the piece. Even so, I've reinforced it on the underside to prevent further cracking.
