This Presto Fry Pan was an innovator when it was made in the mid-1950's, as they claimed to be the first manufacturer to offer a removable control unit, making the pan fully immersible for easy cleanup. Additionally, they made other appliances that could share the same controller, which was sold separately. The base is made of heavy cast aluminum; the pan and lid, without the controller, weighs almost 5 pounds! For my Magnalite collectors- if Wagner had ever made an electric skillet, it would have been something like this!
This unit has been completely cleaned, polished, and refurbished, and there is not a speck of grime or residue left anywhere on it. While it was in operating condition when it came to me, inspection of the control unit revealed a broken ceramic bushing inside. Rather than resell a sketchy product, I was actually able to replace the control unit with a vintage controller, unused and still in its box! I'll include the box with your purchase! With the new controller in place, it heats completely, as you can see in the video.
Presto made this pan to last, with no paint on the outside or non-stick coating on the inside to scratch or peel. There's not a lot that can go wrong with a pan like this except the control unit, and you'll have a brand new one! Having inspected the inside of the controller- there's not a lot that can go wrong in there either. (I expect the one with the broken bushing was dropped at some point.) Unfortunately I've not been able to locate an instruction or recipe book, but as you can see in the photos, the recommended cooking temperatures are listed right on the handle!
