When electrical refrigeration was replacing iceboxes in the 1930's and 40's, there were no automatic ice makers or chilled water dispensers- so the clever marketing folks at Westinghouse collaborated with the Hall China Company to commission pieces especially made for the new-fangled appliances. In addition to bowls and containers with lids for storing leftovers, they came up with this rather ingenious design for a "cold water dispenser!" Not only did its sleek Art Deco style complement the Westinghouse product, it also made efficient use of space by taking a squat shape that allowed it to fit easily between the lower shelves! I wonder why no one makes anything like this today?!

It's a gorgeous blue color that matches other pieces I offer, and is in excellent condition with no chips cracks, or crazing. It would make a gorgeous addition to an Instagram worth fridge-scape... or a practical pitcher for juice or other beverages you want to place on a lower shelf!

Postscript: My research shows that this pitcher originally had a top, which alas is missing. I have repriced it accordingly. It's still a beauty!
